Refugees continue to arrive in growing numbers at the Humanitarian Respite Center at Sacred Heart Church in McAllen, Texas. In fact, this past week, the numbers doubled, with upwards of 150 people now arriving daily. So the need for volunteers and donations is growing!

Food, showers, toiletries, clothing, shoes, LOVE and compassion are offered to refugees from Central America and other countries, who are fleeing the violence in their homeland and seeking asylum in the United States.

The Humanitarian Respite Center, located in Sacred Heart Church’s Community Center, 306 S. 15th Street, McAllen, TX, 78501, is open 7 days a week, including all holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or until the last refugee is served.

Volunteers Needed!

While the number of refugees fluctuates from day to day, volunteers of all ages are welcome! Those living in the Rio Grande Valley, who are willing to share a few hours of their time on a regular basis, are especially needed!

Volunteers are asked to bring a picture ID and enter through the back doors of the Sacred Heart Community Center. You will provide your contact information on a sign-in sheet and receive a volunteer vest to wear inside the Center.
