CALL TO ACTION: Take a picture with friends and family and use it as your profile/cover pic on social media. Hashtag #EndFamilyDetention and #FastingForFreedom to join the international call to end family detention and support the mothers on fast at Karnes.
This is a call for international solidarity with the 41+ mothers fasting for freedom inside the Karnes for-profit “family” concentration camp in Texas. GEO has cut off food for the children now and are cutting communications between clients and lawyers when the word “fast” is heard (the phone lines are tapped by this federal contractor.)
Letter written and signed by 78 imprisoned families: http://endfamilydetention.com/breaking-women-in-karnes-fam…/
Previous statement from 20 imprisoned families: http://endfamilydetention.com/statement-by-20-families-hel…/
Women and children in these facilities are subjected to sexual abuse, put in freezers, fed “fracking” water, and bleach. They are being extorted by judges and the legal system through bonds and legal rulings that separate mothers from children. They are forced to perform slave labor for the same daily rate as is the price of one small bottle of clean water.
GEO has used isolation to stop the effort and has now cut food off from the children to stop this Holy week fast. The Department of Homeland Security is telling the media that the fast does not exist.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Families do not belong in prisons, especially those seeking asylum. Many of these families are indigenous to this continent and do not speak ANY foreign/European language (English or Spanish) and are systematically subjected to additional abuses.
FOR THE DURATION OF THE FAST, please join us in proclaiming solidarity with the mothers on fast by taking a picture OR uploading a religious icon (Virgen de Guadalupe, for example) and include the #EndFamilyDetention or #FastingForFreedom hashtags.
